This book describes the role of colloids in paints, highlighting the importance of~fundamental research in industrial applications. It is intended for surface, polymer and physicochemists, materials scientists, and chemical engineers. The main objective of the book is to consider the colloidal phenomena involved in a paint system, its flow characteristics or rheology, its interaction with the substrate and the main criteria that are needed to produce a good paint for a particular application. The first chapter provides a general introduction to the properties of the main components in a paint formulation. The second chapter deals with emulsion polymers, discussing emulsion polymerisation, polymeric surfactants for stabilisation of preformed latex dispersions, and dispersion polymerisation.
