CULTIVAR INFLUENCE ON THE GROWTH CHARACTERISTICS OF PLUM TREES

The study has been carried out in the period 1991- 2004 with plum trees of the following cultivars : Stanley; Nevena; Althan renclode; Opal; Chachanska Lepotica; Gabrovska in the orchards in Dryanovo branch of the Research Institute of Mountain StockBreading and Agriculture /RIMSA/- Troyan. All the trees were grafted on Myrobolan № 4 and the distances of planting were 7 x 5 m. The aim of the research was to establish the specific influence of the cultivars on the growth characteristics of the studied cultivars. The following characteristics have been observer - trunk cross-sectional area; diameter of the crown; height and size of the crown. During the research of the growing of plum trees it was established: 1/ The largest size of the crown have trees of Nevena cultivar, followed by Althan renclode cultivar. 2/ The least vigorous growth show trees of Chachanska Lepotica cultivar where the distances of planting of 7 x 5 m are too long and the land is not effectively utilized.
