摘要

Congenital and acquired pediatric foot and ankle pathology poses a great challenge to surgeons. Knowledge of prenatal growth and foot development is paramount to understanding the pathophysiology of congenital deformities and how acquired deformities disrupt or alter this normal developmental pattern. Choosing the appropriate treatment depends on numerous variables unique to the pediatric population. Interventioh through bracing, casting, or surgical reconstruction can have a profound impact on the growing foot. Certain deformities may be functionally less symptomatic as the patient matures, whereas other conditions and acquired deformities become more pronounced with severe functional limitations.
