摘要

Most California tomato grow-mers have their fair share ofweeds to contend with—some harder to deal with than others. But in the past couple of years, field bindweed (Convolvulsus arvensis) has become an increasingly difficult weed to control."It just seems that in commercial processing tomato fields, bindweed has become more of a problem," says Scott Stoddard, a University of California farm advisor in Merced. "Since we've been changing our production and irrigation methods, this weed seemsto be getting worse."Stoddard strongly suspects that the lack of aggressive tillage in fields that now have subsurface drip has hastened the spread of bindweed, making it more difficult to kill.
