US rails report coal shipments drop, coke loads rose: AAR

US freight railroads shipped 1.2% more coal during the week ending August 21 than they did a year ago, according to the Association of American Railroads. The trade group reported that rails shipped 134,431 loads of coal, but remained down 0.9% so far this year at 4.23 million dollars. Coke shipments grew 27% to 3,498 for the week and are down 25% to 113,264 so far this year, the AAR reported.
