Time is tissue

All vascular surgeons by vocation are accustomed to managing urgent and emergent diseases. We know very well the natural history of aortic pathology, such as ruptured aneurysm, acute aortic syndrome, and aortic dissection. Many years ago, we also learned the importance of urgent surgery and the use of hybrid techniques in preserving a limb threatened by acute ischemia. More recently, we have discovered that an emergent procedure (open or endovascular) could reduce the rate of neurological events in patients with vulnerable or symptomatic plaque in the extracranial carotid arteries. Ross Naylor1 and Peter Rothwell2 described this situation well, which is todav known as "Time Is Brain."
