A new approach to treating infected vascular reconstructions: the hybrid EndoVAC technique.

Treatment of prosthetic graft infection is undoubtedly one of the most difficult tasks in vascular surgery, and the clinical outcome is often worse than the natural history of the disease process that led to graft implantation. Morbidity and mortality rates remain particularly high when presenting signs are sepsis or anastomotic bleeding. The conventional surgical management of infected arterial prosthetic material included total graft excision followed by complex, often extra-anatomical, revascular-ization. However, due to the high complication rates following these procedures, numerous graft preservation techniques have been developed in order to improve outcomes.
