The news from the JCAHO is that there will be Environment of Care (EC) activity during the survey process in 2004. This is not a surprise as the information published about the much-revised survey process hinted that the JCAHO design team had not found a way to incorporate the EC activity into the clinical tracer methodology.Information about the 2004 survey process is exclusively available to accredited organizations through the JCAHO intranet. This is accessed through a link in the main JCAHO website named JAYCO. Everyone who reads this column that works in or for an accredited facility needs to determine who in their organization has access to the JAYCO site. The information about the survey is a downloadable document called the Draft Survey Activity Guide. The guide lays out the entire survey process for 2004.
