Neurobiology of disease in children: a decade of successful symposia and a robust partnership with the Journal of Child Neurology.

Rare neurologic disorders are of great interest to researchers dedicated to understanding normal and abnormal pathophysio-logic mechanisms, but such conditions are often not the "stuff of general scientific meetings where participants hear about diagnostic and treatment approaches to common neurologic problems. Bernard Maria recognized this education deficit and acquired funding from the National Institutes of Health to sponsor a symposium on Joubert syndrome to precede the annual Child Neurology Society meeting in 1998. Maria then turned the proceeding of that symposium into articles for special issues in September and October 1999 of the Journal of Child Neurology.
