摘要

Recombinant protein expression and purification in prokaryotes has allowed for the production of substantial quantities of almost any protein which can subsequently be used in a number of downstream assays. Where these recombinant proteins will be assessed for structural studies or other cell-free in vitro applications, contamination by potentially confounding macromolecules such as endotoxin (iipopolysaccharide, LPS), a cell-wall component in all gram negative bacteria, is generally not an issue. But when the intended down-stream application is use in a cell-culture system or animal model, endotoxin contamination becomes a major concern.
