Unlike the US market for uncoated flats, that for HDG is seeing relatively slow recovery of demand. Trading companies prefer to keep inventories very low, continuing to book only small volumes. Thus, mills have been unable to reflect the rise announced in early March in deal prices so far: distributors have decided that suppliers have not enough reasons to do that. As a result, base transaction prices for HDG are hovering at $816-838/t ($740-760/short ton) EXW, like two weeks ago.
