The 'Rhododendron' Horticultural Society - The Symbiotic Relationship Between the Royal Horticultural Society and the Genus Rhododendron

The origins of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) can be traced back to 1804. On 7 March of that year, under the chairmanship of John Wedgwood, son of the famous potter, six other gentlemen including Sir Joseph Banks, President of the Royal Society, William Forsyth of Kensington and St. James', William Aiton of Kew, nurseryman James Dickson and two amateurs, Charles Greville and Richard Salisbury, met at James Hatchard's bookshop to establish what we know today as the RHS.
