Distribution Records of Willow-feeding Sawfly, Arge enodis (Hymenoptera, Argidae), in Japan, with Notes on its Immature Stages and Life History

Collection records are given for all the available specimens of a willow-feeding sawfly, Arge enodis (LINNAEUS, 1767), obtained in Japan. Despite the common occurrence of the host plants almost all over Japan, the sawfly has been found only in a few localities in western Honshu. Immature stages and life history of this species are studied based on the material collected in Tatsuno, Hyogo Prefecture. Major adult emergence in Tatsuno is in May, and a small wave of emergence exists in July and September, respectively, at least under laboratory conditions. Distinguishing characters of the species are briefly discussed.
