Taxonomic Notes on Two Micrelytrine Genera, Paraplesius and Distachys (Hemiptera, Alydidae)

Two monotypic genera, Paraplesius SCOTT and Distachys HSIAO are reviewed and the genus Distachys HSIAO, 1964 is recognized as a synonym of Paraplesius. Two known species of Paraplesius are redescribed, illustrated and keyed. The vertical distributionof Paraplesius species in Shikoku is discussed. The genus Paraplesius SCOTT, 1874 belonging to the tribe Micrelytrini SrAL, 1967 of the subfamily Micrelytrinae SrAL, 1867 comprises only one species, Paraplesius unicolor SCOTT, 1874. This species is originally described from Japan and now also known from Kurile Islands, Russia and Korea (KwoN et al., 2001). Concerning the feeding habit, this species has been believed to be a bamboo feeder, because most specimens were collected only on the leaves of Bamboo and bamboo grasses. On the other hand, HSIAO (1964) established a new genus Distachys from China based on a new species, Distachys vulgaris HSIAO, 1964. At a later time, HASEGAWA (1975) pointed out that an unidentified species which can probably be considered as Distachys vulgaris HSIAO, 1964 was found from southwest parts of Japan. Nevertheless further systematic revision between these two genera had never been done.
