Aleurodaphis of Japan (Hemiptera, Aphididae)

Japanese species of the aphid genus Aleurodaphis are reviewed. Five species are recognized and three of them, Aleurodaphh impatientis, A. ligulariae and A. stewartiae, are described as new species. A key is given for the separation of the Japanese species. The genus Aleurodaphis VAN DER GOOT, 1917, is a small genus with only five known species in the world, This genus belongs to the subfamily Hormaphidinae, and is characterized in the apterous alienicola in having an aleyrodiform body, which is ovaland divided into 4 parts (head plus pronotum, mesonotum plus metanotum, abdominal segments I-VII, and abdominal segment VIII), wax pores on the body margin, 6 abdominal spiracles on each side, ring-like cornicles, globular cauda, bilobed anal plate, 4-or5-segmented antennae, and eyes that are represented only by triommatidia. In the alate viviparous female the antennae are also 4- or 5-segmented, bearing annular sen-soria, and the processus terminalis is very short; the media of the fore wing is branched once, and the anal and the cubitus are joined together at the base; the media and cubitus of the hind wing are almost parallel to each other.
