Most UK water utilities now rely on electric actuators. But Guernsey Water recently opted for remotely controlled pneumatic actuation when upgrading a pumping station. The upgrade has already helped to prevent flooding in one part of the island. On 3 February last year, Guernsey faced one of its wettest and windiest days in recent memory. Heavy rain fell throughout much of the day and by the evening Guernsey Airport had recorded 32.5mm of rainfall. Many of the island's roads were flooded, making several impassable and causing widespread disruption.
