Global Food and Agricultural Institutions: The Cosmology of International Development Assistance

International development assistance, food aid and the food-security situation acquired their place in the sun following food and energy price hikes in 2007. Now, for the first time, a book by John Shaw, a veteran of the World Food Programme, providesa comprehensive overview of the collectivity of international organisations concerned with world food and agriculture, offering considerable food for thought for students and activists in the business of international development on history's lessons and what must be done to avoid repeating its mistakes. Nearly 2 billion poor people earning less than $2 a day are directly affected by the actions of these organisations. Despite a largely common membership, there is a lack of co-ordination among them. Agrowing number of national representatives serve on their highly diverse governance structures on a rotating basis.
