Cardiac Arrest in High Mountain Regions During the Summer Season Different Causes with Different Outcomes

The increase in sporting activities and tourism in mountainous regions has also caused an increase in the number of patients suffering acute diseases or accidents in these areas. Cardiopulmonary arrest in people while staying in mountainous regions results from trauma, high altitude illness, cold injury, getting buried under an avalanche or sudden cardiac death. Overall, the number of fatalities in the alpine regions has not increased over the last years. In this study, the authors describe the cause of cardiopulmonary arrest, medical treatment, and the recovery process of three patients during the summer season in high mountainous regions and discuss the rescue operation and medical measures based on a review of the current literature.
