The spontaneous pneumothorax in the adolescent is a potentially life-threatening condition and must be identified and adequately treated by any emergency physician. However, its delineation from other thoracic pathologies in the pre-clinical setting may be difficult. The clinical pictures as well as the pre-clinical and clinical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are discussed in this article.
