Big Lift For AWP Industry Suppliers

I last wrote about the aerial work platform (AWP) market two years ago and how sales of scissor and boom lifts were moving along very well. At the time of that writing, I said the market for AWPs would keep marching for several more years. Here we are in early 2015, and sales of these machines are really heated up. In fact, both scissor and boom lift sales are sitting very close to the record levels achieved in the 2006-2007 peak years. It's too soon to know actual 2014 sales of these machines, but I am pretty sure the industry is having a joyous New Year over the results. When I talk about record sales for AWPs, I mean unit sales of scissor lifts exceeding 50,000 units and boom lifts at 24,000 units. Those were the old peak sales levels for both machines, and I believe when the dust settles on 2014, industry suppliers will have surpassed both records.
