The new Halle combined-cycle, cogeneration plant under construction at the Saale, Germany, location for EVH, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Halle GmbH, is due to start commercial service by mid-2005 replacing a 30-year-old cogeneration plant based on two 25/30 MW extraction condensing turbines manufactured in Gorlitz in 1972. The new plant will feature two identical sections rated 48,5 MWe each with production of hot water for a district heating system serving 1500 house connections through a 260 km network, Maximum heat production for each section is 85 MWt, bringing the plant overall efficiency to 90%. The gas turbines are GE LM2500+ units packaged by MTU rated 29 MWe each. The gas turbine exhaust is used in a single-pressure, supplementary-fired, HRSG from Bertsch of Bludenz, Austria, that can deliver up to 105 tons of steam at 80 bar, 525℃, The steam is fed to an 18,5 MW back-pressure industrial steam turbine type SST-300, The steam is extracted from the steam turbine at 1 bar pressure, 102℃, and used to heat the water for the district heating system.
