To be sure,automation system managers are confronted with significant challenges;shorter technology life cycles,new regulatory oversight and legislation such as Sarbanes-Oxley,cyber and physical asset security,IT computer license audits and so on.Maximizing uptime was once the central concern.Now,with less staff,they must devote equal attention to system sustainability,asset security and due diligence.Where product training and a ready supply of spares were once sufficient,now there is need for real-time knowledge of developments and risks originating external to the system.
