Watermelon mosaic virus resistant watermelon breeding lines WM-1, WM-2, WM-3, and WM-4.

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) lines WM-1, WM-2, WM-3 amd WM-4 released by the USDA-ARS, Georgia, are resistant to infection by watermelon mosaic 2 potyvirus isolates FC-1656 (Florida), PV-27 (Arizona), PV-379 (Italy) and K and M (Israel). Selectedfrom PIs189316, PIs189317, PIs248178 (Zaire) and Egun (Nigeria), WM-1, Wm-2 and WM-3 are derived from 4, 5 and 3 selfing generations, respectively, whilst WM-4 is the result of 5 selfing generations by sib-mating. All 4 lines are egusi-type watermelons and have good potential as sources of resistance in breeding programmes, although their poor quality makes them unsuitable for direct commercial use.
