A laboratory study was conducted to determine the effects of the genotype and the application of different plant growth regulators (benzyladenine and NAA) on the in vitro induction of bulblets from bulb scale explants of Lilium ledebourii and Lilium x Gironde (Asiatic hybrid). Apical and basal segments of bulb scales were cut separately and cultured aseptically on MS basal medium supplemented with 0.01 and 0.1 mg benzyladenine/litre and 0.01 and 0.1 mg NAA/litre and on a medium without plant growth regulators. The greater number and fresh weight of L. ledebourii bulblets were obtained on the medium without plant growth regulators. For the Asiatic hybrid, however, the greater number and fresh weight of bulblets (9.16 and 1.1 g, respectively) increased on the medium containing benzyladenine + NAA at 0.1 mg/litre. In both species, the highest number of roots was obtained on the medium containing 0.1 mg NAA/litre without benzyladenine. Basal parts of the bulb were more effective than the apical sections..
