An empty park. Bland hard landscaping. Weeds conning up between the dying "hardy" exotics. A dried-up water feature. It doesn't take much to picture this scene. Most towns, cities and villages contain at least one example of bad practice. The conflict between design and maintenance is an enduring one. Landscape architects have long been accused of creating designs that are difficult or expensive to look after, leaving landscape contractors or local authorities to pick up the pieces.
