Search continues for alternative to peat

Although the industry knows that the future is peat free, a suitable successor has yet to win widespread approbation. Is it going to be a case of "I told you so" in the question of peat? For years, those at the sharp end of horticulture have said that nothing is as good as peat for growing plants. There are some excellent peat-free products on the market, but none of them have yet replaced the original. This was backed up recently when one of the leading producers of growing media showed off work ithad done looking for a substitute.
