Some-thing for every one: People, pets and wildlife delight in this artfully designed garden

Long before anybody in this country was talking New Wave as a planting movement, Cynthia Newby was busy installing an Impressionistic garden with blocks of blossoms. Why did she choose that route? Because of its efficiency for pollinators. And because massing blooms looks sensational! All Cynthia Newby and Jan Napier wanted was a paradise. Not much to ask, especially when you're starting with nothing more than a Connecticut cow pasture. Birds and other pollinators were integral to the picture—what would heaven be without feathers? From the start, they dedicated their property to accommodating beneficial wildlife, but Cynthia didn't have an exact vision for the garden to surround the Greek Revival home that she had designed. She had gardened before, but she had no training in landscape design.
