摘要

USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface is becoming very popular not only in the PC/Notebook industry, but also in the Consumer Electronics. The universe and open platform of USB make itself the most popular and important electronic interface in the world. The USB interface provides 1.5(Low speed), 12(Full speed), and 480(High speed) Mbits/sec data transfer rate can fit many kinds of applications of peripherals and devices. However, the high power consumption in high speed mode confines its expansion to the applications in mobile devices. This paper presents a dual-mode USB interface to solve the power-consuming problem in high-speed mode. Here presents both architectures in device side and host side. A controller chip with dual-mode USB interface for the USB Flash Disks was designed and fabricated by the UMC 0.18μm CMOS process. The experimental data shows that the dual-mode USB interface can significantly save the power consumption.
