Last year I was given some old windows so I decided to build a cold frame. I figured that I would use the frame to harden plants in the beginning of the season and prolong the growing season in the fall. The first job was to make a frame to fit all the windows. Each window had a half inch flange around the edge which made it easy to fit it into a frame. As you can see from the image above, the frame was made of 2 x 4s, screwed together. This frame measured just over 10 feet long and five feet high so the plan was to set it on a bed that was four feet wide. In theory that should give a frame that is three feet tall at the back. In practice it worked out to be slightly taller after the frame was set in place.
