GROW SOME SOFT FRUIT

Most gardens are looking ragged in early spring, and those that have endured this past winter's extreme cold are looking more ragged than usual. But that's no reason to decide against planting beds of soft fruit, including strawberries, blackberries,raspberries, blueberries, gooseberries, and currants (both red and black). Soft fruits are so called because they're very easy to crush. Unfortunately, this same trait can also make them difficult to transport, especially the softest ones, such as raspberries. That's one reason why growing your own soft fruit makes sense. Some people consider rhubarb a "soft" fruit, too, although others much malign it. I happen to love rhubarb and grow it in my outdoor garden as well as in my greenhouse.
