Analysis of area, production and productivity on sugarcane in tamilnadu

Sugarcane is one of the major cash crops grown in more than 3.25 million ha by 3 million small and big farmers. Around 70 per cent of the sugarcane area is in subtropical region and the balance is in tropical region. Sugarcane cultivation is concentrated in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Tamilnadu is an important state for sugarcane production where the productivity is the highest with 118.9 t/ha in 1995-96. In this paper an analysis has been carried out to study the growth rate of area, production and productivity of sugarcane in Tamil Nadu and also in the major sugarcane growing districts of Tamilnadu.
