Antagonistic Potential of Pseudomonas fluorescens Against Meloidogyne Incognita in Tomato

Twenty eight strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens isolated from the rhizosphere of healthy tomato plant were tested for their efficacy against root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita in tomato. Among them, three isolates namely, Pft 18, Pft 20 and Pft25 were found to increase plant growth in a standard roll towel test and pot culture conditions and suppressed root-knot nematode population in vitro. Talc formulations of the three isolates were tested on tomato in a green-house experiment and comparedwith that of a commercial formulation Pf 1 and carbofuran 3G. The isolate Pft 20 showed significant increase in shoot length, weight and leaves per plant than other isolates and it also caused significant reduction in nematode population.
