Correlation in conjunction with path analysis, helps in identifying suitable selection criteria for improving yield, hence the present investigation was undertaken to assess the association between the yield and its components and their direct and indirect contribution to grain yield by utilizing eight parents and 28F_1 crosses. Eight genetically diverse urdbean genotypes collected from different geographical regions of India and their all possible cross combinations constituted the material for present investigation. They were grown at S.V.Agricultural Farm, Tirupati during summer 2000 in a randomised block design in three replications with a spacing of 30 cm between rows and 10 cm between plants. Observations were recorded on five randomly selected plants in each plot on ten characters viz days to 50 per cent flowering, days to maturity, plant height, clusters/plant, pods/ plant, pods/cluster, pod length, seeds/ pod, 100seed weight and seed yield/plant. The genotypic and phenotypic correlationcoefficients were calculated and path coefficient analysis was carried out by using the formula suggested by Deway and Lu (1959).
