Available water storage capacity of the major soil series of Thanjavur district, Cauvery delta

The available water storage capacity is the amount of water held by the soil between the field capacity and permanent wilting point. Though the ability of the crops to extract moisture from soil differs, the capacity of soil to retain moisture within this limit vary with factors like texture. Hence, the knowledge about these limits becomes essential for planning soil and water conservation and to suggest suitable crop management techniques (Walia et al. 1999). Keeping these in view, the present study was undertaken in Cauvery Delta area of Thanjavur district.
