Effect of dormancy breaking treatments of bulbs to enhance early emergence in Tuberose

Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) is an important flower crop commercially cultivated for cut and loose flowers, garland making and decoration. Also the tuberose flower is a very good source of essential oils, Tuberose bulbs show dormancy for a period of three months with a high level of abscisic acid (Nagar, 1995). The informations on breaking the dormancy of bulbs are scanty. According to Jana and Biswas (1982), soaking tuberose bulbs in GA_3 100ppm would break the dormancy and advanced flowering.Dhua et al. (1987) reported that soaking tuberose bulbs in thiourea and KNO_3 enhanced the sprouting and subsequent growth. Because of very limited work in breaking the bulb dormancy, the present experiment was taken to study.
