Effect of macro and micronutrients spray on seedling growth attributes of teak (Tectona grandis Linn.f)

Teak (Tectona grandis Linn. f) is the most extensively planted tree species in India and its planting has been increased in the recent years. It is a seed propogated tree although vegetative means such as bud and / or root grafting are possible. However, the latter has little practical feasibility to measure upto the vast demand for planting material every year (Dharmalingam, 1995). From the nursery, six to eight months old seedlings were prepared for the stumps and then allowed for sprouting. The stumps were kept for two to six month's period to attain plantable height. To reduce the nursery period and maintenance cost, foliar application of macro and micronutrients was found to be good by boosting the growth and vigour of seedling (Chinnathurai et al. 1997). More attention has been paid on the need to accelerate the growth of important timber yielding tree species by fertilizer application (Bheemaian et al. 1997). With this concept, the present study was undertaken to study the effect of macro and micronutritients on growth attributes of teak seedlings.
