Performance of Kattavarai (Cassia nigricans vahl) to rhizobial seed bacterization

Kattavarai (Cassia nigricans vahl) is a waste land plant, occurs in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts of Tamil Nadu during north-east monsoon season. It belongs to the sub family Caesalpinoideae which falls under the family Leguminoceae. Being a legume plant, it fixes atmospheric nitrogen. The N content of the plant is 2.73 per cent which is relatively higher than other non-conventional green leaf manures. Research work is in progress to utilize this unconventional green leaf manure. Hence, this plant is described as a shrub or under shrub, the nodulation behaviour will be different from that of annual field crops. In view of this, an experiment was conducted to identify the nodulation behaviour of C. nigricans and its ability to nodulate with different rhizobial strains.
