Substitution of the larger Ln ions with smaller Pr ones in layered La{sub}1.4Sr{sub}1.6Mn{sub}2O{sub}7 resulted in longer Mn-O linkages, which control the magnetic ordering in the material, and led to the loss of long-range magnetic order. An external pressure, generated by a diamond anvil cell was applied to induce the long-range magnetic order. The dc magnetization of Pr{sub}1.4Sr{sub}1.6Mn{sub}2O{sub}7 increases with an increase of pressure. Such an increase of magnetization was attributed to the presence of long-range magnetic correlations. Analysis of the resistance measurements suggests that these correlations were of antiferromagnetic origin. A transition from an insulating to metallic-like behavior in Pr{sub}1.4Sr{sub}1.6Mn{sub}2O{sub}7 was observed at pressures between 13 and 37 kbar.
