Jorge Jimenez and Maria Ines Romero (Mar/Apr 07) are correct to laud Chilean initiatives as an important model of infant mortality reduction. The government of Chile has a long history of making maternal and child health a priority. Of considerable conqern, however, are the growing inequities in-Health. that are indicative of broader socioeconomic disparities in Latin America's most rapidly growing economy.
