Fitch: Don't Expect Improvement in Refining Earnings This Year

Dubbing the U.S. summer driving season a "bust," Fitch Ratings said last week it expects U.S. refining earnings to continue to be weak through the end of 2008. U.S. refiners and the downstream sectors of U.S. integrated oil companies have reported significantly decreased earnings, or even losses, in their second quarter earnings.
