SENATORS BLEND FUEL ISSUES INTO RFS AMENDMENT

The Senate defeated an amendment that would have eliminated the controversial ethanol mandate and instead reached agreement on a renewable fuels standard (RFS) package cobbled together by Sens. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) and James Inhofe (R-Okla.). The energy bill, prepared by the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, included an RFS, but energy bill manager Domenici sought to change the package when it hit the Senate floor Tuesday.
