Motiva Breaks Ground on Refinery Expansion

Motiva Enterprises, the Houston-based joint venture between Dutch oil major Shell and Saudi Aramco, broke ground last week on the 325,000 b/d expansion of its 275,000 b/d refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.In addition to expanding the refinery to what would be the largest in the U.S., the project also aims to decrease most types of emissions on a per barrel basis by using advanced technology on new systems andeplacing current systems. Emissions of nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds will be decreasedrom current levels after the expansion, the company said.
