U.S. refining margins topped 20/bbl in the first week of July, nearly double the mid-cycle figure, according to the calculations of one Wall Street analyst. Companies that provide early indications of their quarterly performance also report lofty margins, and that leads Jacques Rousseau of Friedman Billings Ramsey (FBR) to predict another round of record results.
