Fluorosurfactants have long been used in low-VOC latex-based architectural paints as multi-functional additives to provide wetting, levelling, anti-blocking, oil repellency and dirt pick-up resistance. This paper discusses the application in waterborne wood coating formulations.The base formulation used in the study was a waterborne self-crosslinking acrylic dispersion used as binder with an MFFT of 113°F. Five different surfactants were evaluated in the base formulation at 33-34 wt% and a viscosity of 8000-8500 cPs.
