Chromed or chromium surfaces, often used for sanitary fittings and room fixtures, provide a shiny, glossy appearance that can become heavily soiled by deposition of soap, toothpaste or mineral deposits and marked by fingerprinting. These deposits can be removed by mechanical scrubbing, but eventually cleaning results in scratches and other surface damage that makes the surface even more susceptible to contamination and soiling.
