Largely due to the upcoming closure of JX Nippon Oil & Energy'sl80K-b/d Muroran refinery in March 2014, Japanese refiner Idemitsu Kosan has announced a series of infrastructure upgrades for its 140K-b/d Hokkaido refinery, to be completed by the end of Feb. 2014. Once the Muroran refiner)? is closed, Idemitsu's plant will be the only refiner on the island of Hokkaido, meaning that it will shoulder additional kerosene demand for heating during the winter.
