According to the EPA's own Office of Inspector General (OIC), the agency needs to do better in its regulation of hydraulic fracturing, particularly with regard to the use of diesel fuel as a fracking fluid. It also needs to follow through on plans, laid in May 2014, to determine whether it is necessary to require producers to publically disclose their fluid ingredients. "Evidence shows that companies have used diesel fuels during hydraulic fracturing without EPA or state permits," said OIG project manager Khadija Walker. "EPA also has not determined whether states and tribes are following the agency's memorandum for issuing permits when hydraulic fracturing uses diesel fuels."
