Iran to focus on domestic refining, puts overseas projection hold.

According to National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Co. (NIORDC) Managing Director Abbas Kazemi, Iran is putting on hold plans to build refineries in Syria, Malaysia, and Indonesia. He clarified, however that while no work on the projects is ongoing, none of the contracts have been cancelled. On hold is a joint venture, owned 26% each by Iran and Syria, 33% by Venezuela, and 15% by Malaysia, to build a 140K-b/d refinery in Syria. Additionally, Iran had plans to build two refineries in Malaysia, the 250K-b/d Kedah refinery and another 120K-b/d plant. Just recendy in Feb., Iran and Indonesia had signed a preliminary deal to build a 150K-b/d, $3B plant. For undisclosed reasons, all of these projects have been suspended.
