Dubai has all but eliminated use of costly diesel and fuel oil at its power stations as it switches almost entirely to natural gas-fired generation, according to documents seen by WGI.The liquids equivalent of just 1 million cubic feet per day (10.34 billion cubic meters per year) of gas was used to meet power demand in 2011 - a massive drop from the 277 MMcf/d consumed in 2007, before the start of pipeline gas flows and LNG imports from Qatar, according to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) figures. Dubai is notoriously secretive about its energy data, but the Dewa figures show the electricity authority used an average of 942 MMcf/d of gas last year.
