Nearly six months after fuel blended with 15% ethanol (El5) received final regulatory approval in the U.S., only a handful of gas stations in the country are offering the higher blend. Ten stations in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota are now selling El5, with the first stations opening in July. Usage of higher blends overcame several challenges during the last three years on the way to final approval by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Even with that approval in June, sales werestifled by summer fuel restrictions.
